What is cShops?
cShops is a gift economy marketplace that transforms traditional e-commerce from "transaction to connection." Instead of fixed prices, we honor multiple forms of wealth—kindness, time, creativity, community connections, and financial contributions.
The Core Principle
In most cases, we ship first and trust you to give back in your own way, in your own time. This radical trust often inspires more generosity than a traditional transaction ever could.
Why Multiple Forms of Wealth?
Everyone has something valuable to offer. Some people are rich in time. Others in creativity. Others in kindness. By recognizing these different forms of wealth, we create a bigger tent where everyone can participate—not just those with financial resources.
| Wealth Type | What It Looks Like |
|---|---|
| Kindness | Dedicate acts of kindness, leave Smile Cards, write encouragement notes |
| Time | Volunteer hours, help with events, virtual assistance |
| Community | Share with friends, post on social media, introduce aligned people |
| Creativity | Share ideas, artwork, suggestions for improvement |
| Attention | Mindful presence, reading stories, holding good intentions |
| Financial | Pay-what-feels-right donations, cover shipping costs |
The Three Models
cShops supports three different ways for offerings to flow between givers and receivers. Each serves different contexts and intentions.
Gift
"Receive this freely"
Post-Wealth
"Give back in your own time"
Pre-Wealth
"Share your offering first"
Gift Model
"This is a gift. Simply receive it."
In this model, someone offers something freely with no expectation of return. The receiver doesn't select any form of wealth to give back—they simply receive with gratitude.
When to Use Gift Model
- Speaker book giveaways — After a talk, the author gifts their book to attendees
- Time-limited offerings — "For the next 2 weeks, receive this as a gift"
- Sponsored items — A donor has paid for items to be given away
- Special celebrations — Marking an occasion with unconditional giving
How It Works
Post-Wealth Model
"We trust you. Receive first, give back in your own way."
This is the core cShops model—and the most radical. We ship items before any payment or reciprocity. The receiver chooses how they want to give back, but there's no enforcement. Pure trust.
When to Use Post-Wealth Model
- Ongoing offerings — Items always available in the marketplace (Smile Cards, Heart Pins)
- Community-supported products — When building trust matters more than payment
- Inclusive access — When you want everyone to participate regardless of finances
How It Works
Pre-Wealth Model
"Share your offering first, then receive ours."
In this model, the receiver must submit their offering before receiving the item. This isn't about gatekeeping—it's about creating a container for meaningful exchange.
When to Use Pre-Wealth Model
- Limited/precious items — When supply is genuinely scarce
- Curated experiences — Retreats, workshops, special gatherings
- Creative exchange — When reflection IS the experience (writing a story to receive music)
- Building community content — When submissions may be shared

Frequently Asked Questions
What if someone never fulfills their offering?
That's okay. We ship based on trust, knowing some people won't follow through. The data from 25+ years of ServiceSpace shows that enough people rise to the trust that the model sustains itself—and creates something beautiful in the process.
Can someone choose multiple wealth types?
Yes! Many people choose 2-3 forms of wealth. For example: Kindness + Community + Financial. They can fulfill each in their own way and time.
What if someone can't afford to give financially?
That's exactly why we have multiple forms of wealth. Someone rich in time but low on money can volunteer. Someone with creative skills can share ideas. Everyone has something to give.
How do Gift products differ in the system?
Gift products don't show wealth type selection. The button says "Receive Gift" instead of "Request Item." They may show "A gift from [Speaker Name]" and often have time limits (available until a certain date).
Who decides if a pre-wealth submission is approved?
The product coordinator reviews submissions. The bar is low—we're looking for genuine engagement, not literary quality. If someone wrote something heartfelt, approve it!
Can I set up a new product?
Contact Meghna to discuss new product offerings. You'll need to decide: Gift, Post-Wealth, or Pre-Wealth? Physical, Digital, Event, or Hybrid? Who coordinates?
